Fueling the Hit at the Pump

Published by Erica at 8:46 pm under Country Living Edit This

If you’ve filled up your vehicle lately, you’re well aware of the hit your bank account took after getting fuel. I’m not going to expound on it, but I’ll just leave it at this: it sucks…and we’re all in the same boat.

I’ve been just as guilty as the next guy of whining about how expensive gas is, but how am I any different than Darlene Loposky on the other side of the gas pump island thinger?

But have you ever thought what kind of hit people that use an incredible amount of fuel are taking? Huge, I tell you. Huge. Truckers, transportation companies and farmers, of course. (You can’t tell me you didn’t see that one coming. This is a country blog, not a blog about New York City’s taxi service.)

Farmers livelihood depends on the crops they raise. Those crops depend on the tractors and equipment to work them into tip-top shape. Those tractors and equipment depend on fuel. A lot of fuel. Asinine amounts of fuel.

If this still isn’t striking home, let me put it into black and white for you. A farmer in the PN-Dubya had about $11,000 in fuel costs for a month. A month, 11 g’s. Makes $60 every week or two pretty pale in comparison, doesn’t it?
